Happy Diwali

Diwali is a five-day festival that represents the start of the Hindu new Year. The name Diwali means “a row of lights,” and luminescence is a major part of this holiday. Many people put up diyas, small lanterns, around their home to celebrate the five-day holiday. Many also purchase firecrackers to welcome the Diwali celebrations.

Because the festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil, Diwali is a time for joyous celebration. During the festival, many people dance and sing, as well as exchange gifts and warm greetings with their loved ones. The rituals vary according to region. However, worshipping Goddess Laxmi is found to be a common practice. The Goddess Laxmi is believed to have been created from the churning of the ocean on the main Diwali day, and a belief that she will visit every home during Diwali bringing with her prosperity and good fortune.

The candlelight makes Diwali a very warm and atmospheric festival and its observed with much joy and happiness. However, be prepared for lots of loud noise from the fireworks and firecrackers going off.

Family members living abroad who can’t make it for Diwali often send money to India as a gift.

We @ Remit2India take this opportunity to wish every one a very happy Diwali and a prosperous New Year.
